What Our Guests Say

I was originally only supposed to stay at the Basement Bungalow for 3 months, but I loved it so much that I'm just now leaving A YEAR LATER! The place is so cozy! Cara and Dan are such warm, welcoming people and I can't thank them enough for the support they have shown me with my move to Winston-Salem. Cara even went out to get me enough toilet paper to last a whole pandemic! I loved our winery and gelato trips together and our joint garden! I will definitely come by to check on my friends at the compound when I'm running through the neighborhood. The Basement Bungalow will always have a lil piece of my heart. It will be the first place I recommend to anyone coming for a stay in Winston!

The past 10 weeks in the Basement Bungalow have been so great! The place was so clean I could have licked the floor when I moved in! It smelled so good! Cara & Dan have been incredible hosts. They made me feel right at home and Cara even showed me around town and went on some adventures with me! The bungalow has everything you should ever need! Everything was thought of! Bonus: New friends upstairs! Thanks so much for providing me with a safe, clean and fun home-away-from-home!

I have so enjoyed staying in the Basement Bungalow for the past 8 months. The bungalow is cozy, comfortable and cheerful. The decor is fun with it's "Wild Thing" theme! The bungalow has "good vibes" for sure! It is private with lots of trees, flowers and birds. Being where I can walk and get some exercise while enjoying nature has been wonderful. I have also enjoyed the nearby shops and restaurants. This has been a wonderful "good vibes" experience!Thank you, Cara, Dan and Parker for making me feel welcomed.

I had an amazing time staying in the Basement Bungalow while I was in NC for work. Cara made me feel right at home. If you're interested in a relaxing stroll outside, check out Reynolda Gardens (< 2 miles down the road), or just walk around the neighborhood and admire all the pretty houses. Happy adventuring!

For the past four months, I’ve called this place home. The basement has everything you can possibly need and way more. The twinkle lights in the bedroom will keep you company during those long studying nights and the most comfortable pillows you’ve ever slept on will reward you with the sweetest dreams right after. Every morning, a bunch of colorful llamas will be there staring at you from the picture they are in -funky cactus included too- beside the queen size bed. The big (fat) American washing machine is going to test your housewife skills, but there is no need to worry: if it ends up with water and soap all over your floor, Cara and Dan will be ready to fix the situation with dozens of towels and even more laughs. During sunny summer days there’s nothing better than chilling on one of the blue chairs in the patio, with a good book in your hands (and maybe a tasty avocado toast within reach) and the perfect southern folk playlist going on and on and on. Be sure to go for a walk around the neighborhood as soon as the leaves begin to fall and enjoy the stunning beauty of Nature in front of your eyes. If you are in the mood for a classy American brunch, there is no better place than Krankies where you will have the chance to enjoy eggs benedict on top of a homemade biscuit. Bacon is highly recommended by Dan, as well as an extra biscuit, but only on Sundays! Horseback riding in the woods is also a good idea if you wish to challenge your inner cowboy/cowgirl. Take photos, collect memories. Trust me, you will miss these days. There is just one more thing I want to suggest you, future guest: in order to live the most amazing, unexpected and unforgivable experience during your time in Winston, be sure to spend as much time as you can with Cara, Dan and Parker. They have been family to me, they have been friends. Words are not enough to say how thankful I am for have met them. Each day has been a little adventure with Cara and Parky by my side and it will be hard to forget Dan’s face while a big spoon of tiramisù was on its way to his mouth. We talked a lot, we shared even more. I never felt alone and I always felt loved. They were there, ready to help me in any time. People say home is where the heart is. Well, a piece of my heart will be always in Winston Salem with Cara, Dan and Parker.
